Care International

Founded in the US in 1945, Care is a major international humanitarian agency delivering emergency relief and long-term international development projects. CARE's programmes in the developing world address a broad range of topics including emergency responsefood securitywater and sanitationeconomic developmentclimate changeagricultureeducation, and health. CARE also advocates at the local, national, and international levels for policy change and the rights of poor people. Within each of these areas, CARE focuses on empowering and meeting the needs of women and girls and promoting gender equality.

Care International were looking to understand the potential funding from Foundations within emerging markets and/or growing members of the Care International family.  We researched the funding for a number of similar INGOs and scoured several global research sources to develop a ‘funder ecology’ for them.  This presented a clear map of locally-based funders across Africa and within countries such as Indonesia, Switzerland and Sweden.  We also produced nineteen in-depth profiles of funders with guidance on how to approach each one.

“We are keen to diversify our funding portfolio, and, from a global perspective, we felt that we had experienced uneven success with Foundations.  We looked for guidance to build up a better picture how we could maximise our potential and who we could approach.  The Funder Ecology Map from Fundraising Training Ltd gave us an easy to understand illustration of this market with clear entry points for us to pursue.”
